Porto walking tour
The best way to get acquainted with the city of Porto, to learn its historical part protected by UNESCO, is a half-day walking tour.
During a leisurely stroll through Porto, we will visit the ancient Cathedral of Se and a masterpiece of baroque – the Episcopal Palace. We will carefully examine the São Bento railway station, decorated with huge wall panels made from traditional Portuguese ceramic tiles “azulejo.” Next, we will cross the Freedom Square, learn the story of King Don Pedro IV whose monument rises in the center of the square. We will climb the Clerigos tower, the bell tower that has become the symbol of the city of Porto.
Next, we will look at one of the most beautiful and unusual bookstores “Lello”, the interior of which inspired by the creator of “Harry Potter”. By the university, by the square of Four Lions, we will go to the church of the Carmelites that you will remember because of its beautiful blue tiles.
Then we will go to Henry the Navigator Square, the prince who started the Age of Great Geographical Discoveries. Near the square, we will visit the pompous Palace of the Exchange and the Church of St. Francis, the only building in the city that is an example of the architectural gothic style.
Through ancient winding streets, we will arrive to the embankment of the river Douro famous as the Ribeira. We will cross the bridge of Don Luis I, built by the apprentice of Gustave Eiffel, and therefore so reminiscent of the famous Eiffel Tower, and we will get to the southern bank of the Douro River, or the Vila Nova de Gaia district, where the ancient cellars in which port is kept, are situated.
